Australian middle order batsman Adam Voges had to be taken to the hospital after he was struck on the head while fielding for Middlesex during the County Championship match against Hampshire.

Voges, who is the Middlesex captain was in the slips when a throw from the deep missed the wicket-keeper and struck him on the head.

Immediately after the blow, Voges fell to the ground but was conscious and received initial treatment from the physio of the team following which he was helped off the field.

The 36-year-old is suspected to be suffering from a concussion and he was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Middlesex managing director of cricket Agnus Fraser revealed that Voges will not take any further part in the rest of the game.

“It is sad for Adam and disappointing for us as we will have no more use out of him in this match,” Fraser said.

“He wasn’t feeling very well in the dressing room so we decided to get him to the hospital to get him checked over.

“He was feeling a lot better and seems to be coming around.”

In three innings for Middlesex in this season, Voges has scored 163 runs at an average of 54.33 including two fifties and is currently the second highest run scorer for his team.
