Wells and Harry Nielsen combined for an 88-run partnership for the fourth wicket to help the Strikers reclaim the Jason Gillespie trophy.
They stuttered in pursuit of the Scorchers' 6/174 when returning captain Travis Head was dismissed for 10 to leave them 3/64.
But Wells produced his highest Strikers score of 69, along with Nielsen's personal best 44 not out, to guide the Strikers home.
Fan-favourite Rashid Khan scored the winning runs with four balls to spare, while also returning figures of 2/22.
Ben Laughlin took 1/25 in his 50th match for the Strikers - the first player to ever reach the milestone for the club.
