Adelaide Strikers secure finals berth after super-over win - Highlights
Another spectacular Sophie Devine knock, plus an Amanda-Jade Wellington bowling clinic, has secured the Adelaide Strikers a place in the rebel WBBL|05 finals.
After the Strikers lost the toss and were sent in to bat at Blundstone Arena, Devine was formidable, striking 88 from 56 balls, only stumped in the final over attempting to go even bigger.
Devine's innings was her sixth half-century from the last seven innings and pushed her ahead of Beth Mooney (Brisbane Heat) for most runs this tournament with 593.
Tahlia McGrath compiled 32, while Katie Mack gathered a quick-fire 18 not out from 12 balls.
Chasing 162, the Sydney Thunder were off to a flyer with opener Rachel Priest thumping 48 from just 20 balls, before Amanda-Jade Wellington (3/17) got the breakthrough, thanks to a brilliant running catch from Devine.
The Strikers bowled and fielded well after Priest's dismissal to lower the run-rate, however the Thunder needed 14 from the final over to win.
Last-over specialist Sarah Coyte bowled the 20th and after she conceded two boundaries early on, suddenly the Thunder needed just one from the final ball.
With the pressure on, Coyte trapped Nida Dar lbw on the final delivery, tying the match and taking it to a super over.
Wellington bowled the super over effectively, with the Thunder finishing on 1/7.
It took Devine just three balls to seal victory with the bat for the Strikers with a four, a two and a single.
The Strikers sit second on the ladder with two minor round matches remaining.
The team will take on the Sydney Sixers next weekend at Hurstville Oval from 1:30pm ACDT. The match can be live-streamed on cricket.com.au, the CA Live app and Kayo.
