Adelaide Strikers have confirmed the signing of Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan for the upcoming season of Big Bash League.
The 18-year-old has picked 42 wickets from 27 T20Is for his country and has been among the most sought players in T20 competitions around the world.
"I am very happy to have signed with the Strikers for the BBL,” said Rashid, who is set to become the first player from his country to feature in the Big Bash League.
"It is a huge honour to be a part of such a great tournament and even more of an honour to be the first Afghanistan player to participate on the BBL stage."
Meanwhile, Adelaide Strikers head coach Jason Gillespie is confident that Rashid's variations will prove handy in Australian pitches.
"Rashid has set the world alight in T20 cricket with his energy, enthusiasm, and great control for a young guy,” Gillespie said.
"He has some great variations, can bowl stump-to-stump and can be very hard to pick.
"We're delighted to be able to offer him the opportunity to play for the Adelaide Strikers."
Rashid is fifth highest wicket taker in the recently concluded edition of Caribbean Premier League where he snared 14 wickets from 12 games at an economy of 5.82. He also became the first bowler to pick a hat-trick in the history of the tournament.
