Kabul Province started its campaign in the Afghanistan Provincial Challenge Cup with a five wicket win over Balkh Province on the opening day of the tournament.

At the Mis Ainak Cricket Ground, Khost, Balkh Province elected to bat first. But it did not work out well as Balkh was bowled out for a mere 105 in just 24.1 overs.

The openers Abdul Malik and Zafar Balkh (29) posted a stand of 47 but there was a middle-order collapse which put paid to all hopes of a revival for Balkh. The best bowlers for Kabul were Abdul Rahman (3-32) and Shafiqullah Ghafari (3-12). The other bowlers of note were Farmanullah (2-39) and Inamullah Khan (2-9).

The chase for Kabul started off on the wrong note as they lost wickets early on and were at 15 for three. Then a 58 run fourth wicket stand between Nisar Wahdat (57 n.o.: 62b, 5x4, 3x6) and Younas Ahmadzai (23) put the chase back on track.

Wahdat was the man in charge as Kabul overhauled the target in 23.2 overs to finish at 110 for five with five wickets to spare. The only bowler of note for Balkh was Abdullah Mazari (2-15).
