UAE won the toss and opted to bat first. A solid 83-run opening stand between Mustafa (77) and Muhammad Kaleem (25) laid a steady platform for the UAE.
Mustafa completed a 31-ball fifty and struck seven boundaries and four sixes in his knock. Enterprising cameos from Usman Mushtaq (23) and Mohammad Shahzad (25) boosted the total to 176 for four in 20 overs.
Rashid Khan (3-25) was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan with three wickets to his name.
In a stiff chase, Afghanistan were rattled early and were reduced to 39 for three in the powerplay phase.
Karim Sadiq (72) steadied the ship with a 48 ball knock of 72 runs but Afghanistan lost regular wickets to be placed at 144 for five by the end of 18 overs.
When 33 runs were needed from 12 balls, Sadiq was castled by Mohammad Naveed (2-29) in the 19th over.
With a triple strike in the final over, Mustafa (3-19) bowled Afghanistan out for 160 runs, securing a 16-run victory for the UAE. Mustafa was picked as the man of the match.
