Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing campaign against Australia after suffering a calf injury in the fourth One-Day International in Dambulla.

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Mathews has not yet undergone a scan on his injury but has been ruled out by the team management from the final ODI and the Twenty20 International series.

Mathews suffered the injury while batting during the game and had to retire midway through the innings but returned towards the end and was the last man to be dismissed.

Sri Lanka have also released Thisara Perera and Lakshan Sandakan for the final ODI and have drafted Upul Tharanga, Niroshan Dickwella and Dasun Shanaka.

Sri Lanka trail 3-1 in the ongoing series and will look to register a consolation win in the final ODI which will be played on 4th September in Pallekele.

Following the ODI series, Sri Lanka and Australia will play two T20Is, one in Pallekele and another in Colombo on 6th and 9th September respectively.
