Angelo Mathews to miss final T20I against India
Sri Lanka's chance of salvaging pride in the third and final Twenty20 International against India has taken a major blow with veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews ruled out of the encounter due to a hamstring injury.
The injury prone Mathews sustained the blow while bowling in the second game in Indore and left the field in the 12th over of the innings with Akila Dananjaya going on to complete the rest of the over.
The 30-year-old, who bowled just 14 deliveries in the game did not come to bat later on in the game as Sri Lanka succumbed to a massive 88 run defeat that saw them surrender the series to Rohit Sharma's men.
The news was confirmed by Sri Lanka team manager Asanka Gurusinha.
“Angelo will not play the last game of the series. According to the physiotherapist Nirmalan Dhanabalasingham, he will be out for about two weeks,” Gurusinha told Cricbuzz.
The final game of India's home season this year is set to be played at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
