Anton Devcich picked a three-wicket haul and also followed it with a three-wicket haul as Northern Districts reduced Central Districts to 99 for eight and later chased down the target in just 8.5 overs with nine wickets in hand in the final of the Super Smash 2017-18 season in Hamilton.

This is their second title win after previously winning the tournament in the 2013/14 season.

Central Districts won the toss and decided to bat first but things did not go as per the plan as Brent Arnel (1-19) had Jesse Ryder (0) caught at deep midwicket while a double strike from Scott Kuggeleijn (2-24) saw the back of skipper Will Young (5) and Tom Bruce (3).

The inning sunk further with leg-spinner Ish Sodhi (2-15) had Dane Cleaver (10) caught behind and in his next over had Josh Clarkson (2) stumped. At one stage, Central Districts were placed 69 for eight and with only George Worker (37) showing some resilience in the top order.

Late contributions from Bevan Small (21 not out) and Ajaz Patel (11 not out) helped Northern Districts post 99 for eight in the 20 overs. Devcich (3-16) was the pick of the Northern Districts bowlers with a three wicket haul while Kuggeleijn and Sodhi picked two apiece.

In the chase, Northern Districts came off to a blistering start with Tim Seifert (23) hitting five boundaries in his 12-ball stay. Even though he fell in the third over, Devcich (51 not out) and Dean Brownlie (28 not out) with their unbeaten 73 run stand off just 35 deliveries ensured they chased down the target with utmost ease.
