Ashton Turner Joins Worcestershire Rapids for Vitality Blast Campaign
Worcestershire Rapids have signed “exciting prospect” Australian international batsman Ashton Turner as one of their overseas players for the 2020 Vitality Blast.
The 26-year-old is available for the 2018 winners and 2019 runners-up Rapids entire campaign including the knockout stages and finals day if they progress through the group stages.
He will join forces with the County’s other overseas player, New Zealander Hamish Rutherford, who is available all season and is playing all formats. (Specsavers County Championship, Royal London One-Day Cup and Vitality Blast)
Right-hander Turner is currently in action for Australia in their home T20I Series against Pakistan having previously played last month against visiting Sri Lanka.
To date the Perth born player has made 10 T20I and three ODI appearances.
Turner has a vast amount of experience in white ball cricket and has played in the Big Bash for Perth Scorchers in every campaign since 2013-2014.
Earlier this year he made his debut in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals.
His 83 T20 appearances have yielded 1166 runs and a strike rate of 136.05 and he has also scored 971 runs in 36 List A games at 35.96.
Turner has acted as stand-in captain for Western Australia, whom he has played for since 2012-2013, and the Scorchers.
Worcestershire Cricket Steering Group Chairman, Paul Pridgeon said: “We are very pleased to sign Ashton. He is a promising, young player which fits our profile and hopefully he will fit nicely into our set-up.
“He is a top order batter, batting four or five at the moment in the Australian T20 side.
“His stats stack up. We’ve seen footage of him and have done our homework - he looks a decent player.
“He is also a terrific fielder which helps, and is important in T20 cricket.”
