Ashwin to miss IPL 2017 with sports hernia
India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been ruled out of the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a sports hernia.
The 30-year-old picked up the injury during the Test series against England in December and has been instrumental in India claiming the number one spot after a successful home season where they won 10 out of the 13 Tests.
Ashwin will need six to eight weeks of recovery period which will keep him out of action for the Rising Pune Giant in the upcoming edition of IPL but is expected to be fit in time for the Champions Trophy tournament in June.
Meanwhile, Lokesh Rahul is also be sidelined from the tournament with a shoulder injury and it will be a big blow for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are already without skipper Virat Kohli for the initial period.
Kings XI Punjab will most likely miss the services of opening batsman Murali Vijay, who has picked a wrist and a shoulder injury during the recently concluded Test series against Australia while Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav has been rested for the first two weeks of the tournament.
The tournament will kick-off on 5th April with last edition's finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore taking on each other at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
