The Australian selectors have included Queensland batsman Joe Burns and South Australia middle order batsman Callum Ferguson in the squad for the second Test against South Africa in Hobart.

The decision comes after Shaun Marsh has been ruled out of the series with a finger injury which recurred during the Perth Test which Australia went on to lose.

Earlier, Marsh missed the One-Day International series against South Africa due to the same injury and now it seems to have resurfaced again, forcing him to be on the sidelines.

Australian physiotherapist David Beakley confirmed the injury to Marsh and further added that he is expecting the Western Australian batsman to be fit in time for the home series against Pakistan.

"Shaun re-injured his left little finger on day one while fielding," said Beakley.

"Subsequent x-rays have shown a similar break to the previous one and he will now require surgery to stabilise the bone fragment.

"At this stage, all going according to plan, we expect Shaun to be available for selection during the Commonwealth Bank Pakistan Test series."

Adam Voges also remains in fitness cloud with a hamstring injury which he sustained during fielding in the second innings of the game.

Meanwhile, Victoria seamer Peter Siddle has also been ruled out of the game with a back injury and Jackson Bird has been added as a cover but Joe Mennie, who is already present in the squad is expected to be part of the Hobart bowling line-up of Australia.

"Peter Siddle had some lower back soreness at the conclusion of the first Test Match in Perth," added Beakley.

"Whilst we expect bowlers to be sore after Test matches, this was slightly worse than we expected and given that he was returning from a significant back injury, we organised some scans today.

"The scans demonstrated some low grade bone oedema around his old stress fracture that is likely to be a flare up of his previous lower back injury."

Australia squad for Second Test:

David Warner, Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith (captain), Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh, Callum Ferguson, Peter Nevill, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Joe Mennie, Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird (reserve)
