Australia bounce back after Jensen five-wicket haul
Australia Women 272-8 dec (Mooney 118) v
ACT Invitational XI 71-4 (McGrath 30)
Tour game in Canberra
After Beth Mooney scored a fine century, a five-wicket haul from Hayley Jensen restricted Australia Women to 272 for eight before the declaration came following which the ACT Invitational XI managed 71 for four at stumps on day one of the tour game in Canberra.
The three-day tour game kicked-off with Australia winning the toss and decided to bat first. Marizanne Kapp (1-15) provided the early breakthrough for the ACT XI with the wicket of Nicole Bolton (2).
Mooney (118) looked solid at the other end and had brief support from Alex Blackwell (28) and Ellyse Perry (58) as they added 81 and 97 run partnerships respectively.
Mooney decided to retire out on completion of her century and soon Jensen (5-26) took control and reduced Australia to 272 for eight before the declaration came.
In response, ACT XI lost both the openers Katie Mack (0) and Jensen (6) in quick succession while Erin Osborne (8) was trapped LBW by Perry (2-17). Tahlia McGrath (30) injected some momentum with her 52 ball knock that had seven boundaries but was castled by Perry at the stroke of stumps during which they were positioned 71 for four.
ACT XI still trail Australia by 201 runs with six wickets in hand.
