Cricket Australia (CA) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 local organising committee (LOC) welcome a $4.4 million funding commitment to multicultural programs from the Australian Government, as outlined in Tuesday evening’s budget papers.

The $4.4 million investment over two years will help deliver multicultural participation programs that support the legacy objectives of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 and enrich Australian cricket’s proud vision of being a sport for all.

The programs created will support the participation of multicultural Australians at all levels of cricket, generate significant positive health and social outcomes for multicultural communities and empower members of those communities through cricket leadership roles.

CA will work closely with priority partnerships, including the Usman Khawaja Foundation, to ensure the successful delivery of these legacy programs.

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said:

“CA extends its thanks to the Australian Government for its valued support as we build towards an exciting ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on home soil.

“CA, alongside the Australian Government and the T20 World Cup Local Organising Committee, is committed to creating more opportunities for our culturally diverse community to play cricket.

“Through increased participation and connection, these legacy programs will ultimately bring more Australians together to enjoy our nation's favourite sport.”

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Local Organising Committee CEO, Michelle Enright said:

“Sport has an unrivalled ability to unite us, and there is nothing bigger in sport than a World Cup. As we experienced with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup here in Australia in 2020, they can positively impact the nation’s psyche and can be truly transformative for a sport.

“As well as showcasing our cities and our country to the world, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will bring people of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities together for a celebration of cricket and the many different cultures that make up its incredible fanbase.

“We thank the Australian Government for getting behind our purpose and vison for the event to celebrate our rich, multicultural community and to showcase cricket as a game for all. Their support of the legacy initiatives we have implemented alongside Cricket Australia will ensure that the Men’s event has an enduring impact.”
