Australia Win T20 Opener
Australia Women 117-6 (Jonassen 46) beat
West Indies Women 113-7 by four wickets
First Twenty20 International, Sydney
Australia Women won the first Twenty20 International against the West Indies Women by four wickets despite Hayley Matthews and Anisa Mohammed taking three wickets apiece.
Stafanie Taylor also scored a half-century for the tourists as they posted 113 for seven but Australia reached their victory target in 18.5 overs.
Taylor struck 52 in 54 balls but Deandra Dottin (24) and Britney Cooper (18) were the only others to reach double figures, and only Cooper could score at better than one run per ball.
Kristen Beams (2-15), Rene Farrell (1-13), Sarah Coyte (1-17) and Jess Jonassen (1-27) kept things tight for Australia.
Ellyse Villani (19) then helped Jonassen get Australia's reply off to a flyer and after Mohammed dismissed her, Jonassen added 50 for the second wicket with Meg Lanning (24) to take Australia to the brink.
The West Indies were not going to go down without a fight however, and Matthews removed Lanning, Jess Cameron (1) and Alex Blackwell (11) and Mohammed struck again to dismiss Jonassen and Ellyse Perry (3).
The home side had slipped from 82 for one to 108 for six, but thanks to their fast start, they were able to see out the game with seven balls to spare, Alyssa Healy hitting 11 not out in seven balls and Erin Osborne one in two.
