The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected the resignation of the Pakistan One-Day International captain Azhar Ali over the inclusion of Mohammad Amir in the training camp in Lahore.

Last week, Ali and Mohammad Hafeez refused to take any part in the training camp in Lahore as the PCB included Amir among the 26 players.

After speaking to the PCB chairman Shahryar Khan, both the players returned to the training camp after the board made their stand on the matter clear.

According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, PCB confirmed in a press release that Ali will continue to lead the ODI side after his resignation from captaincy was summarily rejected by the chairman of the board.

“Azhar Ali met the Chairman PCB. He tendered his resignation.

“The Chairman didn't accept his resignation, Azhar Ali agreed and he will continue as captain," the PCB said in a statement.

Amir was included in the training camp after the PCB had declared him eligible for national selection following the successful completion of his rehabilitation programme after serving his five-year ban.

Earlier, the PCB chairman had urged the senior players in the side to support the 23-year-old on his comeback trail.
