Ban v India 2nd Test Day 1: Yadav, Ashwin combine to help India take control

India took control of the second and final Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday thanks to a commanding display with the ball.

After opting to bat, Bangladesh was bowled out for 227 9in 73.5 overs and in response India was at 19 for no loss.

 Earlier, Bangladesh made a confident start to their innings thanks to a 39-run opening stand between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan. After about an hour India struck as Bangladesh lost the two openers cheaply. Thereafter, captain Shakib Al Hasan and Mominul Haque added 43 runs for the second wicket. But after Shakib fell after lunch, Bangladesh innings was repaired by a 48 run fourth wicket stand between Mushfiqur Rahim and Haque. Then, Haque added a further 42 runs for the fifth wicket with Litton Das. Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 41 runs for the sixth wicket with Haque. Then there was a procession as Bangladesh slipped from 213 for five to 227 all out, losing five wickets for 14 runs. Haque top-scored with 84 off 157 balls with 12 boundaries and a six.

For India the best bowlers were Umesh Yadav (4-25), Ravichandran Ashwin (4-71) and comeback man Jaydev Unadkat (4-71).

In their response India finished on 19 for no loss after eight overs, still 208 runs behind.
