Bangladesh name Shafiul Islam as replacement for injured Mustafizur Rahman
Bangladesh have named fast bowler Shafiul Islam as a replacement for the injured Mustafizur Rahman for the remainder of the tour in South Africa.
Rahman suffered an ankle injury in a practice session ahead of the first One-Day International against the Proteas in Kimberley and was forced to sit out of the first two games which were already won by the home side.
Considering the current situation of the 22-year-old, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to release Rahman from the squad with his replacement Shafiul already departed to the rainbow nation on Thursday night.
Habibul Bashar, who is part of the selection panel expressed disappointment on the news on Rahman, who he believes was a key component of Bangladesh's bowling attack.
"Naturally losing Mustafiz is a big blow for us," Bashar told Cricbuzz.
"He is one of our key bowlers in the shorter format considering his performance compared to Test cricket and now we have to accept and look forward.
"I think he will not be totally new to the situation as he was there with the Test squad earlier. He is an experienced campaigner and was quite remarkable for Khulna Titans in the last edition of BPL".
Shafiul, who has picked 63 wickets from 56 ODIs for Bangladesh is unlikely to be involved in the third and final game of the series on Saturday but is expected to be in contention for the two-match Twenty20 International series that will begin on 26th October.
