Match Report - Salim Parvez  - A day of ebb and flow at Chittagong

A gallant fifth wicket stand worth 204 runs between experienced Mushfiqur Rehman  and Liton Das, managed to steer Bangladesh to 253 for 4 at the close of play on the opening day of the Test against Pakistan. It could not have come at a better time for their side was in deep trouble at 49-4 in the first session. The pair will resume the innings on the second day in an attempt to reach a first innings total of 400 plus.

Having taken the field without Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah, Bangladesh’s red-ball skipper Mominul Haque saw no reason not to make first use of the wicket at Chittagong. The national selectors’ faith in wicket-keeper Das was paid handsomely when, walking in at No.6, he posted his maiden hundred in his 26th Test. Missed off Shaheen Afridi on 67, he reached the three figures with a sharp single to mid-off and thus far has outscored his senior partner Mushfiqur, who is unbeaten on 82 at stumps. Das will be keen to add to his 113 not out which till know has featured 11 fours and a six.
