Former England Test batter, Ian Bell, will continue as Derbyshire’s Batting Consultant for the 2023 season.

Bell, who scored more than 13,000 runs in international cricket, joined Derbyshire ahead of the 2022 campaign and assisted the Club’s coaching staff as six players scored more than 1,000 runs across all formats.

During the season Bell also worked with Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred, while he was part of the England Lions coaching staff for their UAE training camp and tour of Sri Lanka.

Bell will work alongside Ajmal Shahzad, Chris Highton and Alex Hughes as part of Mickey Arthur’s coaching team in 2023, as Derbyshire look to build on a solid showing in the Head of Cricket’s first season in England.

He will join-up with the squad for their pre-season training camp at Desert Springs in Spain, and will offer valuable insight in the build up to the 2023 campaign.

Arthur said: “Ian’s experience as a player has moulded him into a good coach and he’ll be a valuable asset for our batters to work with in 2023.

“He will have more availability for Derbyshire next season, which can only be a good thing for our players, and it’s important that we utilise his experience and expertise whenever possible.

“Ian works around the world, he sees what’s working and isn’t working with batting and it means he can always come in with a fresh set of eyes and new ideas to enhance our strong batting line-up.”

Bell added: “I really enjoyed my time working with Derbyshire in 2022 and it wasn’t a difficult decision to come back in 2023.

“You could see from the quality of our batting performances last season just how good the players we have are, and I’m excited to work with the group again and hopefully help them to get even more out of their game.

“Working with Mickey is something every young coach should dream of; you’re learning from one of the best in the world and I know this will help me as I go though my coaching career.”
