Ben Raine played the lead role as Leicestershire CCC beat Glamorgan CCC by three runs on an extraordinary final day at the Fischer County Ground.

Leicestershire CCC 191 and 237

Glamorgan CCC 178 and 247

Result and Points - Leicestershire win by 3 runs, Leicestershire CCC 17 points, Glamorgan CCC 2 points

Raine made a priceless 65 to ensure Leicestershire CCC posted 237 in the second innings, meaning that Glamorgan required a testing 251 to win.

The all-rounder then took 4 for 44 - including the vital last wicket of Marchant de Lange - as the Welsh County were ultimately dismissed for 247 in what was a fascinating Specsavers County Championship match from start to finish.

Paul Nixon Head Coach of Leicestershire commented:

“It’s a win for the whole club, those on the field and off it,” said Nixon. “This is for the groundsmen, the marketing team, our Chief Executive Wasim Khan and his team, the Members and spectators, many who were still here at 7.30pm – it’s for everyone.

“It’s been a long time coming for people who care passionately about this club. Championship cricket is the truest test, physically and mentally, and it’s a game of chess over four days. To come out on top at the end, there’s nothing quite like it.”

Glamorgan captain Michael Hogan commented after the match:

"We'll keep backing our young boys, we'll ride the ups and downs and move forward,

"But we had two chances to boss the game and we didn't get it right."
