Mark November, the 24th in your calendar as it coincides with the commencement of the Bengal T20 Challenge Tournament at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This is the first edition of the tournament and the Cricket Association of Bengal hopes to conduct it annually this season onwards.

Six teams are expected to participate in the inaugural Bengal T20 challenge and a total of 33 games are planned to be played. The final schedule is due to be released this Saturday and we will update you once it is out. Each team will face one another two times in the whole tournament. The six teams participating are Mohum Bagan, East Bengal, Tapan Memorial, Town, Kalighat and Customs.

Key players to be featuring in the tournament are Shreevats Goswami, Manoj Tiwary, Shahbaz Ahmed, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Debabrata Das, Akash Deep, Sudip Chatterjee and Aamir Gani. Mohammed Shami and Wriddhiman Saha, two of the senior players are missing from the tournament owing to their national duties serving the Indian side in Australia.

Key Players - Recent Form

Abhimanyu Easwaran: (T20 Career strike rate: 131.19)

The top order batsman gave modest performances in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year. His performances included scores of 9, 15, 11, 7 and 30. He is considered to be one of the finest cricketers in Bengal and his mighty strike rate of 131.19 makes him a good candidate for the MVP in the upcoming Bengal T20 Challenge.

Manoj Tiwary: (T20 Career strike rate: 116.24)

Manoj Tiwary delivered match winning performances against Punjab and Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy. He has been a consistent performer for Bengal. His T20 strike rate of 116.24 is not too flashy but his experience comes in very handy in crunch match situations. He could well be one of the top performers for his team, Mohan Bagan Club.

Shreevats Goswami: (T20 Career strike rate: 116)

The 29 year old wicketkeeper played for Sunrisers Hyderabad this IPL on the back of his extremely impressive Ranji Trophy season. His outings for Sunrisers Hyderabad yielded two ducks back to back but he holds good domestic records and can hit the long ball.

Shahbaz Ahmed: (T20 Career strike rate: 128.22)

The left handed all rounder is remembered for his extremely good catch of Steve Smith in the recently concluded IPL. He did not get to bat much in the tournament but showed his talent in bowling against the Delhi Capitals. His batting has improved over the time and he is known to be a power hitter of the cricket ball in the domestic circuit.

Debabrata Das: (T20 Career strike rate: 128)

He is a talented right handed batsman who carries a lot of experience under his hat. The dazzling power hitter batsman played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL and for the Brothers Union in the Dhaka Premier Division League. He has not played much cricket recently but his strike rate of 128 and an average of 28 can cause a little worry to the opposition.

This tournament is happening without an active involvement of corporate franchises to which Avishek Dalmia further added , This tournament is a CAB property and it will continue to remain the same without franchises. We are trying to ensure all the top brands are associated, top players are associated. We took suggestions from our think tank, the Bengal support staff and the coaches."
