Bessborough Cricket Club, located in Harrow, North West London, passed its century in 2008 with a (victorious) centenary match against the MCC and is now looking to build the foundations for another hundred.
The club has four Saturday league teams, with the 1st XI stepping up to play in the Middlesex County Cricket League from 2015 after winning the Middlesex Championship in 2014. The 2nd XI also competes in the MCCL, while the 3rd and 4th teams do battle in the 1987 Middlesex League. In addition, the club has a Sunday team that plays in the Chess Valley League and for those that prefer a bit of mid-week bash our T20 friendlies side “The Barbarians” take on all comers from the Harrow area.
Bessborough CC is ECB Clubmark accredited and has one of the strongest colt’s setups in the whole of Middlesex, catering for young players aged between 9 and 17. A testament to the strength of the colts is that the majority of the current senior sides have come through the ranks. Recent colt success includes the under 17s being crowned champions of the Middlesex Colts Association (MCA) County League for the fifth time in 2012. The U13’s were national champions in 2001.
The most famous graduate of the Bessborough colts system is undoubtedly current England batting coach Mark Ramprakash who cut his batting teeth on the beautiful Headstone Manor strip to become one of our youngest ever first team players in the mid-eighties. Other success stories include Keith Dutch who played for Middlesex and Somerset, while former player and colts coach Graeme West is now Head Coach at the West Indies Cricket Board’s High Performance Centre in Barbados.
The club is always on the lookout for new players of all abilities or even social members to help out behind the scene or simply enjoy the clubhouse facilities.
