Bourne CC - Groundcare Diary – Beginning of May 2020
Whilst we are in ‘lockdown’ we are following the Bourne CC Groundcare team (Clive Brown and Ian Greenfield) through the season as their ground maintenance programme progresses throughout the Spring and Summer in readiness for a Return to Cricket.
We caught up with them at the beginning of May......
Following the much-needed rain during the last week, this has presented perfect soil conditions for the renovation of one of our three strips that are below par. (uneven growth lack of quality grass, poor quality grass).
1 Cut down strip to 6mm
2 Deep scarification and verticut. Carry out this procedure in three directions last pass in direction of play
3 Using the power brush tidy any debris from the scarifying, cleaning of the surface
4 Using the sorrel roller puncture the surface.
5 Overseed the strip
6 Provide a light dusting of loam over the area and drag brush surface.
7 Water and finally cover the strip to promote germination.
The reason we have gone so hard on this strip at this time of year is because of the current situation, and this is one strip if Hopefully we can get some cricket played this season this strip will not be required for use.
