Bowlers continue to keep Guyana Amazon Warriors alive
Guyana Amazon Warriors 101-3 (Mohammed 42no) beat
St Lucia Stars 100-7 (Ryder 29) by seven wickets
21st match, Caribbean Premier League, Providence Stadium
After a strong bowling performance from Guyana Amazon Warriors restricted St Lucia Stars to 100 for seven in the 20 overs, Sohail Tanvir and Jason Mohammed ensured they completed the chase in the 15th over with seven wickets in hand in the 21st match of Caribbean Premier League at Providence Stadium.
Guyana won the toss and decided to bowl first. A tidy spell from Tanvir (0-22) and Veerasammy Permaul (1-16) proved vital as St Lucia struggled right from the outset and managed just 26 for two in the powerplay, losing both Andre Fletcher (0) and Shane Watson (1).
Jesse Ryder (29) tried to provide some resilience along with Johnson Charles (15) but the momentum, the Stars expected, never came up as they managed only 100 for seven in the 20 overs. Rayad Emrit (2-26) and Rashid Khan (2-19) picked two wickets apiece for Guyana.
In the chase, Chadwick Walton (0) and Martin Guptill (8) fell early but Tanvir (38) injected momentum into the innings with a 29 ball knock that had five boundaries and a six. He added a vital 51 run stand with Jason Mohammed (42 not out) to put them in a course of win which the latter completed in the 15th over.
