A collective bowling effort from Rising Pune Supergiant saw them dismiss Kings XI Punjab for just 73 runs following which they completed the chase in 12 overs with nine wickets in hand to seal a top two finish in the group stage of Indian Premier League.
As a result, Pune will now lock horns with Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium with the winner booking a berth in the final.
Pune won the toss and elected to field first. In the very first delivery of the innings, Martin Guptill (0) was snared by Jaydev Unadkat (2-12) following which Wriddhiman Saha (13) and Shaun Marsh (10) struck two boundaries and a six combined to inject some momentum.
However, Shardul Thakur (3-19) struck thrice in a span of two overs to account for Marsh, Rahul Tewatia (4) and Glenn Maxwell (0) while Eoin Morgan (4) was run out as Punjab were reeling at 32 for five.
There was no respite whatsoever as Daniel Christian (2-10) and Adam Zampa (2-22) also were among the wickets to dismiss the visitors for just 73 in 15.5 overs.
In response, Rahul Tripathi (28) and Ajinkya Rahane (34 not out) gave a solid start of 41 runs before the former was castled by Axar Patel (1-13).
Pune had no trouble in completing the chase with Rahane and Steven Smith (15 not out) staying till the end to complete the nine wicket win in 12 overs. Unadkat was awarded the player of the match.
