Burns, Compton pick out Ashes 2015 players to watch - Cricket World TV

We asked Middlesex pair Joe Burns and Nick Compton to pick their players to watch in this summer Ashes series and perhaps unsurprisingly, they came up with completely different answers.

"It's hard to pick out one particular player because there are so many good players on show," Burns, who has played a brace of Tests for Australia, said.

However, Compton, who has played nine Tests for England, had little hesitation in plumping for a batsman on either side as his players to watch.

"I think Joe Root's been in great form and he's been very exciting," he ventured.

"He's very dynamic and I think if he can play in the same vein I see him and Steve Smith as almost a like for like so it'll be a big contest to see who can outperform one another."

And as both men prepared for the first Ultimate Fielding Test with Crazy Catch in Uxbridge, they both highlighted the importance of the bowlers in the coming five-match series.

But, once again there was a difference in opinion, as Compton thinks spin could hold the key with Burns offering his opinion that the new ball battle will be crucial.

"I think in the spin department, something that's not spoken about hugely in English conditions, but I think whichever spinner can do a better holding job and can take the odd important wicket, I think will be very good," Compton said.

Burns added: "I think each side has a very good bowling attack so it's going to be great to watch the Australian boys with the new ball, and again Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson with the new ball for England so it probably comes down to who can deal with the new ball the best as a batting side."
