National captain Graeme Smith will lead the Cape Cobras when they play in the Champions League Twenty20 in India next month.
Smith, currently recovering from elbow surgery, is targetting a return to action in the Champions Trophy later this month and if fit, will lead a strong Cobras squad which includes fellow internationals Herschelle Gibbs, JP Duminy, Justin Ontong and Monde Zondeki with Vernon Philander, Claude Henderson and Charl Langeveldt other members of the squad to have international experience.
The Cobras will be in action on day one of the tournament on 8th October when they take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore and they are also scheduled to play against the Otago Volts on 10th October.
“It is going to be an exciting experience for our team which has a good balance of experience and youth,” convenor of selectors Omar Henry told the Cobras' website (www.capecobras.co.za).
“We have the skills required with both spin and swing bowling, in addition to talented attacking batsmen. It is a great squad to go to India and the big challenge will be to adapt to the local conditions."
