Charles, Watson muscle St Lucia Zouks to third successive win at home

Johnson Charles and Shane Watson shared an unbeaten 151-run stand for the second wicket as St Lucia Zouks chased down 160 against the Guyana Amazon Warriors with nine wickets in hand in the 23rd game of the Caribbean Premier League at Darren Sammy National Stadium.

Rayad Emrit led the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the absence of Martin Guptill but it was St Lucia Zouks, who won the toss once again and opted to field first.

Jerome Taylor (2-26) bowled splendid first two overs where he conceded just three runs and accounted for the wicket of Nic Maddinson (2).

Chris Lynn (86) struck a six and a boundary as the Guyana Amazon Warriors reached 28 for one in the powerplay and added another 34 runs to take the total to 62 for one at the halfway mark.

Lynn and Dwayne Smith (56) decided to up the ante as they scored three boundaries and a six in the next two overs.

Smith reached his fifty off 45 deliveries while Lynn brought his own half-century and the 100-run stand in the 16th over.

Between overs 17 to 19, Lynn smashed four sixes, but the Guyana Amazon Warriors kept losing wickets and eventually managed 159 for five in the 20 overs.

In the chase, St Lucia lost Andre Fletcher (3) early to Sohail Tanvir (1-47). But with five boundaries and a six, Charles (94 not out) and Watson (57 not out) ended the powerplay phase at 47 for one.

Charles went severe on Orlando Peters (0-18) hitting him for two sixes and a boundary in the seventh over. By the halfway mark, St Lucia Zouks needed just 69 runs.

The pair refused to relent as they scored the remaining runs in just 37 deliveries with Charles racing to 94 while Watson remained unbeaten on 57.

The unbeaten 151-run stand helped them reach the target in 16.1 overs and with the win the Zouks climbed two spots and are now positioned third in the table. Charles was awarded the man of the match.
