Sale had a bad day on Saturday as their double header against Cheadle turned into a rout for the former premiership side who are looking for an immediate return to the topflight.

IS Recruitment sponsored Sale lost the toss and their usually reliable batting faltered.

Only Pat Ashling and Mike Bishop made double figures as Sale were shot out for 62 in the 29th over. Ben Broadhurst taking a remarkable 8-23 for the visitors.

Cheadle lost 4 wicket in pursuit of the target, two each for Tyrone Lawrence and Rick Halkon, as they got home inside 16 overs.

The 2nd XI fared little better in the return match at Kingsway as they were dismissed for 96 in 34 overs. Jared Moran top scored with 28.

Cheadle reached their target for the loss of 5 wickets, spinners Callum Ross and Grant Whittaker taking two apiece.

There was a much closer game on Sunday as Sale 3rd fell 4 runs short in their run chase and had to settle with a draw.

Saad Khan and Lionel Thompson took two wickets each as Timperley 5th XI posted 228-5 in 45 overs.

Sale fell agonisingly short at 225-7 despite 91 from Jared Moran and 69 from Josh Patel. Sale picked up 7 points.

In the reverse fixture at Dane Road Sale 4th XI lost to Timperley 6s by 8 wickets. Naman Mudalier (51) and stand in captain Francis Carlise (27) top scored as Sale posted 182-7.

Timperley reach their target with 11 balls to spare.

Earlier in the week Sale Silverbacks won their top of the table clash at Cheadle Hulme in the over 40s competition.

The home side got off to a flying start before the Sale spinners pulled the score back to 108-6, Lionel Thompson taking 2 wicket.

Sale were always up with the required rate, winning with 4 balls to spare. Asad Khan (27) and Mike Bishop (30 retired) set the innings up before Ian Habershon (14 not out) and Mark Rowe (16 not out) saw the Silverbacks home.

On Saturday Sale 1st XI travel to Congleton and the 2nd XI host Didsbury.
