Chennai Super Kings back to winning ways against Kings XI Punjab in IPL
Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bat against Kings XI Punjab at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai today in the first IPL match of the day.
Chennai Super Kings 160-3 (Faf du Plessis 54, MS Dhoni 37*; Ravichandran Ashwin 3-23)
Kings XI Punjab 138-5 (KL Rahul 55, Sarfaraz Khan 67; Harbhajan Singh 2-17, Scott Kuggeleijn 2-37)
Result – Chennai Super Kings won by 22 runs
Opting to bat first, Chennai Super Kings scored a par total of 160-3 with Faf du Plessis 54 and MS Dhoni 37* top scoring and Ravichandran Ashwin (3-23) the pick of the bowlers for Kings XI Punjab.
In reply, Kings XI Punjab were reduced to 138-5 off their 20 overs, even though at one stage they were 77-2, needing just 84 runs from 9 overs, with KL Rahul (55) and Sarfaraz Khan (67)at the crease, and seemingly in control of the run chase. However, top bowling from Chennai Super Kings restricted and frustrated the Punjab batsmen, resulting in a win for CSK by 22 runs - Harbhajan Singh 2-17 and Scott Kuggeleijn 2-37 the main wicket takers but Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja only going for 20 and 24 runs respectively off their 4 overs.
