Chris Gayle takes Patriots home in a rain hit chase
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 84-1 (Gayle 38no) beat
Barbados Tridents 168-6 (Pollard 63no) by 17 runs D/L
16th match, Caribbean Premier League, Warner Park
A blistering 63 run knock from Kieron Pollard went in vain as Chris Gayle's blitz proved enough to steer St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to a 17 run victory by D/L method in the 16th match of Caribbean Premier League against Barbados Tridents at Warner Park.
Chasing 169 runs for a win, Patriots were gifted with five continuous wides by Akeal Hosein (1-24), who also managed to dismiss Evin Lewis (7) off the final delivery of the over.
Chris Gayle (38 not out) and Mohammad Hafeez (30 not out) managed 12 runs in the next two overs but with clouds gathering the Patriots skipper stepped up the gear with four boundaries in the fourth over bowled by Ravi Rampaul (0-24).
As Patriots reached 84 for three in 9.3 overs, rain arrived allowing no further play possible and the onslaught from Gayle ensured the home side were 17 runs ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis total.
Earlier, Barbados were invited to bat first by St Kitts and the decision proved right as Kane Williamson (7) and Christopher Barnwell (1) were dismissed early.
Even though a quick knock from Dwayne Smith (33) and Shoaib Malik (29) helped Barbados gather some momentum, it was eventually Kieron Pollard's (63 not out) 40-ball masterful innings that powered the visitors to 168 for six in the 20 overs.
