As a big blow to England's ongoing Champions Trophy campaign, all-rounder Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering a calf injury during the recently concluded encounter against Bangladesh at The Oval.
Woakes, who played just one game in the three-match series against South Africa due to a niggle, managed to bowl just two overs in the game against Bangladesh before he was forced off the field.
England skipper Eoin Morgan said in the post match press conference that the team management is concerned about Woakes' availability for the remainder of the tournament but now will have to deal with his absence.
The news was confirmed by a statement released by England and Wales Cricket Board.
"A scan has confirmed that Chris Woakes sustained a left side strain in yesterday's ICC Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh," the ECB said in a statement on Friday.
"The injury means Woakes will miss the rest of England's participation in the Champions Trophy."
The statement further added that a replacement will be announced in due course.
After registering a eight-wicket win against Bangladesh, England will lock horns with New Zealand next at Sophia Gardens on 6th June.
