Comilla trounce Khulna to move second
Comilla Victorians 112-1 (Tamim 64no) beat
Khulna Titans 111 (Malik 3-14) by nine wickets
32nd game, Bangladesh Premier League, Chittagong
Shoaib Malik and Al-Amin Hossain picked three wickets apiece as Comilla Victorians restricted Khulna Titans for 111 and later chased down the target comfortably in 13.5 overs with nine wickets in hand in the 32nd game of the Bangladesh Premier League in Chittagong.
The win has also helped Comilla move to second place in the table while Khulna retain the top position despite the setback.
Earlier, it was Khulna, who opted to bat first but they could not counter the early spin attack from Comilla as Mahedi Hasan (1-8) removed Rilee Rossouw (0) in the first over while Malik (3-14) accounted for Nazmul Hossain Shanto (8), Afif Hossain (8) and Nicholas Pooran (0) to leave Khulna reeling at 29 for four.
Ariful Haque (24) showed brief resistance in the middle but a triple strike from Al-Amin (3-20) meant Khulna's chances were dented further before a 23 run stand for the ninth wicket helped them in brief recovery and post 111 before they were bowled out in 19.2 overs.
Skipper Tamim Iqbal (64 not out) started the chase with three boundaries in the first over, signalling his intention and by the end of powerplay, the Comilla looked in a dominant position at 57 for naught with Liton Das (21) holding the other end.
Even though Kyle Abbott (1-27) provided some consolidation for Khulna with the wicket of Das, Tamim along with Imrul Kayes (22 not out) ensured Comilla raced to the target in just 13.5 overs that will certainly help them boost their net-run-rate.
