day one, LV=CCD2, Essex v Lancashire at Chelmsford
Greg Smith continues to be absent for Essex owing to a side injury but otherwise the hosts are at full strength as they welcome Lancashire.

Essex squad: Tom Westley, Hamish Rutheford, Ben Foakes, Owais Shah, Ryan ten Doeschate, Mark Pettini, James Foster (captain), Graham Napier, Tim Phillips, David Masters, Reece Topley, Jaik Mickleburgh, Sajid Mahmood.

Glen Chapple will again lead the visitors. They have included all-rounder Luis Reece and Kabir Ali in their 13-man squad, while Karl Brown and Stephen Moore are omitted.

Lancashire squad: Andrea Agathangelou, Luke Procter, Steven Croft, Ashwell Prince, Simon Katich, Luis Reece, Gareth Cross,  Glen Chapple (captain), Kyle Hogg, Kabir Ali, Simon Kerrigan, Wayne White, Stephen Parry.

day one, LV=CCD2, Hampshire v Gloucestershire at Southampton
The home side are given a boost by the presence of two left-arm seamers. Sohail Tanvir will make his Hampshire debut, while Chris Wood returns after missing the draw against Kent because of injury.

Hampshire squad: Jimmy Adams (captain), Michael Carberry, Liam Dawson, Neil McKenzie, James Vince, Sean Ervine, Adam Wheater, Sohail Tanvir, Chris Wood, Danny Briggs, David Balcombe, James Tomlinson, David Griffiths.

Gloucestershire welcome back Chris Dent and Will Gidman from injury, while young spinner Miles Hammond is again included.

Mitchell Claydon will make his Kent debut and will cover for injuries to Adam Ball, Ivan Thomas and Mark Davies. Matt Coles is also unavailable for “personal reasons”.

Kent XII: Rob Key, Sam Northeast, Brendan Nash, Darren Stevens, Daniel Bell-Drummond, Ben Harmison, Geraint Jones, Calum Haggett, Adam Riley, Mitchell Claydon, Charlie Shreck, Shaun Piesley (12th man).

Glamorgan will certainly be without John Glover (finger), while Marcus North is a slight doubt with a tricep injury but has been named in a 12-man squad.

Weather Forecast: Tomorrow sees a return to showers, with the morning overcast and punctuated by some light ones and the afternoon seeing some heavier ones in the south-west. The east should, however, remain dry and see some sunshine along the coast. Temperatures will peak at between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius.

County Cricket News In Brief:
have signed Durham seamer Mitchell Claydon on a one-month loan deal as they look to improve their chances of gaining promotion. Kent are yet to win in the LV= County Championship this season and sit eighth out of the nine teams. They have been hit by injury to key seamers Mark Davies and Adam Ball.

Surrey have confirmed the signing of JP Duminy for the final few weeks of the season. Duminy will play six Championship matches and will replace Ricky Ponting as Surrey’s overseas player.
