Ladbrokes have opened a book on who will go down in Ashes history as the 10,000th batsman out.

With the scores level going into the Fifth and final Test Match at the Oval the current tally stands at 9,983 wickets.

England hero Andrew Flintoff is the unsurprising favourite to become the quintuple figure victim - or take his wicket - depending if his side are batting or bowling.

The firm have also priced up on which day the 10,000th wicket will be taken and make the third (Saturday) the 5/4 favourite.

And they go 4/7 that the unfortunate batsman will be caught, 10/3 given LBW and 4/1 bowled.

Ladbrokes cricket betting spokesman Robin Hutchison said: "Getting out is never a good feeling for any batsman, but writing yourself into history in doing so may at least soften the blow."

Flintoff is 7/1 joint favourite with James Anderson and Mitchell Johnson to take the 10,000th wicket.

And he is 10/1 alongside Aussie wicket keeper Brad Haddin to become the statistic himself.

Australia's Nat Thomson became the first Ashes victim when he was bowled for just one run at the MCG by Yorkshireman Allen Hill on March 15th 1877.

England are 7/2 outsiders ahead of the Oval but are being well-supported despite their poor showing at Headingley.

Australia are 6/4 to clinch the series 2-1, with the draw priced at 6/5.
