What drama! What scenes! After India were down at 127/7 in the first innings of The Oval Test match, another collapse was on the cards.
A collapse did happen with India getting bowled out for a below par total of 191 but a 36-ball 57 from Shardul Thakur, the fastest Test half century on English soil, ensured that the Indian bowlers had something to fight.
England took a 99-run lead but India almost batted the home side out of the match, making 466 in their second innings, courtesy of a brilliant hundred from Rohit Sharma and half centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur.
Despite the outlandish expectations, England were bowled out for 210 on the last day as India pocketed the match by 157 runs. They now lead the five match series 2-1 and cannot lose from here on.
England will try their best to bounce back at the Old Trafford and draw the series level.
Jos Buttler and Ollie Pope will play ahead of Jonny Bairstow. Despite spinning conditions at the Old Trafford, Jack Leach is unlikely to get a game with Mark Wood coming back into the side.
For India, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah will be the leading pace bowlers, with them having to pick between Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav.
