Essex and Kent will lock horns in a County Championship Division One match at the County Ground in Chelmsford.


With just one win and two losses from four matches, Kent are at the fourth spot in the points table. They have drawn one match and are with 43 points. A couple of notches below them are Essex with one win and one loss from three matches. They also have one drawn match in their kitty and are with 34 points.

Essex lost their first match against Hampshire by an innings in 87 runs. They gained some ground in the second match against Surrey and were successful in drawing the match. The team further grew in confidence in their third match against Nottinghamshire and won it by eight wickets.

 In that game, Essex bowled beautifully. On the back of a four-wicket haul from James Potter and two wickets each from Samuel Cook, Peter Siddle and Simon Harmer, they dismissed Nottinghamshire for just 187 in the first innings and then went on to score 241, with a half-century from opener Nick Browne.

 Nottinghamshire suffered a collapse in the second innings and could only manage 158. When the match was finally called off, Essex were 105-2 in the second innings and were looking well-placed to win the match.

 As for Kent, they lost their first match against Somerset by 74 runs, but came back strongly against Warwickshire to win the game by eight wickets. They were then beaten by Yorkshire by 172 runs and there last match against Surrey. Given the past performances, Kent are favourites to win the match.
