The last group match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will be played between Australia and South Africa at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

As opposed to what it may seem at first, it is not an inconsequential match as it would decide the number one standing on the points table. If Australia win this match, they will get to face New Zealand in the first semi-final, who are are not looking in good shape at the moment.

South Africa have played well in the last couple of matches and the absence of the burden of being in the semi-final race has been quite evident.

The two teams have earlier clashed a total of 96 times in ODIs out of which Australia have won 47 and South Africa have won 45, while three matches have ended on a tie.

South Africa won their most recent bilateral series against Australia played Down Under. However, Australia have won all of their last five matches, while South Africa have won two and lost three out of their last five.

Australia are currently placed at the top of the points table with seven wins from eight matches. With only one loss, they have 14 points and will retain the top spot if they win this game. However, if South Africa manage to get the better of Australia and if India beat Sri Lanka, India will leapfrog Australia to the top of the points table.

Naturally, South Africa would like to add on to the two wins that they have, to somewhat compensate for what has been a truly below par World Cup display.
