However, in the only T20I that both teams have played against each other, Oman beat Ireland in the 2016 ICC World T20.
Oman have received a jolt in the form of injuries to the leading batsmen Zeeshan Masood and Aqib Ilyas who would not be able to partake in the tournament. The team will depend on the likes of Khawar Ali, Mehran Khan, Khurram Nawaz and Naseem Khushi to score runs for them.
The biggest challenge for the team would be to find the right tempo as they either go all out and loose wickets in bunches or are too conservative and end up scoring a below par total. Their leading bowlers would be Bilal Khan, Mohammad Nadeem and skipper Ajay Lalcheta.
Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie and Kevin O'Brien would be the leading batters for Ireland. Sterling and Kevin O'Brien, in particular, have a lot of international experience and are expected to make substantial contributions. They also have the likes of George Dockrell, Peter Chase and Boyd Rankin who are all crafty bowlers and it would be a challenge for the Oman batters to negotiate them successfully.
The home conditions will definitely favour Oman, still Ireland are expected to win this encounter.
