However, the Sri Lankan batting looked half-cooked and the visitors lost by 113 runs. These are not great signs for the remaining series.
Being 2-0 up in the ODI series, skipper Faf du Plessis said in the post-match presentation that he would look to make a few changes. JP Duminy and Dale Steyn are expected to make the cut in the 3rd ODI.
Quinton de Kock got going from the word go and slammed a 70-ball 94 before nicking off. Skipper Faf du Plessis also compiled a steady half-century. However, the middle order and the lower middle-order collapsed owing to two wickets each from Lasith Malinga and Vishwa Fernando and three from Thisara Perera.
Sri Lanka had to chase 252 with the pitch playing relatively well. However, the team messed up as no batter could spend time on the crease. There was a small partnership developing between Oshada Fernando and Kusal Mendis but the advantage was given away via a run out.
It was a complete performance by the South African bowling unit as the wickets were shared by all bowlers. Sri Lanka would have to introspect as it is now or never for them.
Winning or losing is one thing but having the mindset to win and showing the grit to fight it out is what's missing from the Sri Lankan setup right now.
