The 2nd T20I of the three-match T20I series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.

Sri Lanka have shown strong signs of becoming competitive yet again. There was a phase in between in which they lost repeatedly at home as well, but now with the youngsters gaining confidence, the team is looking closer to its glorious self of the past.

With New Zealand one up, Sri Lanka now have a very small chance of winning the series, given that it's just a three-match affair. But, things can quickly change if they manage to win the second match.

Sri Lanka got off to a flyer in the series opener with the team going past 40 in fifth over. Kusal Mendis was brilliant for the hosts and scored consistent boundaries to keep the run rate up. Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando departed in quick succession but Niroshan Dickwella then steadied matters for the home side.

With a few lusty blows towards the end from Dasun Shanaka and Isuru Udana, Sri Lanka posted 174 on the board. Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner were the top bowlers for New Zealand, both bowling at an economy of five and thereabout.

New Zealand did not get off to a good start with both openers Martin Guptill and Colin Munro getting dismissed inside the powerplay. Tim Seifert also departed soon.

With the Blackcaps at 39-3, Sri Lanka were on top but a stroke-filld partnership between Ross Taylor and Colin de Grandhomme shifted the momentum towards New Zealand.

Malinga than removed Grandhomme to bring Sri Lanka back in the match. Following a rain delay and with 31 required off the last three overs, Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner kept their head as they accumulated the required runs while scoring the odd boundary.

With Sri Lanka rejuvenated, giving the Kiwis a tough fight and with the advantage of playing in their home conditions, Williamson and Co will have to be at their best to win the series.

Let's have a look at the probable playing XI of both teams:

Sri Lanka- Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Dasun Shanaka, Shehan Jayasuriya, Akila Dananjaya, Isuru Udana, Wanidu Hasaranga, Lasith Malinga, Kasun Rajitha

New Zealand- Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Ross Taylor, Colin de Grandhomme, Daryl Mitchell, Tim Seifert, Mitchell Santner, Seth Rance, Scott Kuggeleijn, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi.
