Australia have beaten Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI of the series to take a 1-0 lead.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Danushka Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka provided Sri Lanka with an outstanding start. They added 115 runs for the first wicket partnership. After Gunathilaka was dismissed, a couple of quick wickets fell. However, Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka played well post that phase. Smith made 53 off 60 balls while Finch scored 44 off 41 balls. There was a rain interruption and the target was revised to 282 to get in 44 overs. Glenn Maxwell batted with a lot of heart and hit boundaries when it mattered the most. He made 80 not off 51 balls. His innings featured 6 fours and 6 huge sixes. He got Australia over the line in the 43rd over with 2 wickets in hand.

For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga picked up 4 wickets for 58 runs.
