Match No 24 of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup will be played between England and Afghanistan at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.

England are currently placed at the fourth spot in the World Cup points table. They have won three and lost one out of their four matches and are with six points. They lost their match against Pakistan by a close margin of 14 runs but have won handsomely otherwise, which is why their net run rate is impressive at 1.557.

Afghanistan are placed at the bottom of the points table with four losses from four matches. The fact that they have suffered big defeats reflects in their net run rate which is at -1.638.

England won the opening match of the tournament against South Africa by 104 runs but then suffered a minor blip with the 14-run loss against Pakistan. However, they were back on track, registering a 106-run victory against Bangladesh in the next game and an eight-wicket win over West Indies.

Afghanistan lost their first match against Australia by seven wickets and suffered another 34-run defeat against Sri Lanka in a match that was reduced to 41 overs per side. They were then beaten by New Zealand by seven wickets and South Africa by nine wickets.

The only match that Afghanistan and England have played against each other was at the 2015 World Cup when England registered an easy win.
