Thereafter Kate Gaging lot lit hopes in the Central Hinds camp with her 28 off 27 balls but once she was dismissed, the innings got nowhere and Hinds were restricted to 100 for 9 in 20 overs. Frances Mackay was the pick of the bowlers as she chipped in with 4 wickets.
Chasing 100, Frances Mackay took the bowlers on and smashed her way to 48 in no time. After an incredible performance with the ball, she shone with the bat too and made matters easy for chase. Amy Satterthwaite came in at number 3 and scored an unbeaten 29 off 20 balls. She partnered with Kate Ebrahim for the 3rd wicket and accumulated 40 runs without losing any further wicket to win the game for Canterbury Magicians by 8 wickets with 7 overs to spare. Frances Mackay was adjudged player of the match for her awesome performance with both bat and the ball.
Auckland Hearts on the other hand have won 2 out of their 3 completed games and are sitting at the 3rd position on points table. In their last completed game against Central Hinds, Auckland Hearts won the toss and chose to bat first.
Anna Peterson and Lauren Down got Auckland off to a great start by adding 80 runs for the 1st wicket. Anna Peterson was the more adventurous of the two as she scored a quick 41 off 22 deliveries. Lauren wanted to hold one end strong and not give away her wicket and she did exactly that. She remained unbeaten at 63 off 64 deliveries until the end of the 20th over.
Katie Perkins also played a handy part at number as she scored 20 off 12 while Bella Armstrong made a wonderful contribution of 29 runs with the bat to remain not out. In the end, Auckland Hearts put up a formidable total of 158 for 2 on the board in their 20 overs.
Defending 158, Arlene Kelly bowled a terrific spell and claimed the early wickets of Jess Watkin and Anlo Van Deventer. Natalie Dodd and Emily Cunningham played a good part in stabilizing the innings as they made 14 and 28 runs respectively for their team.
Hannah Rowe in the middle order played a fine innings of 44 runs but she ran herself out at an important juncture of the game. This was when Arlene Kelly was re-introduced into the attack and she picked up 2 more wickets to peg back Central Hinds further. Kelly brought the total number of wickets to 4 in the match. There were little contributions from the lower order but none was too significant to steal the match away from Auckland Hearts. In the end, Central Hinds made 150 for 8 in 20 overs, losing the match by 8 runs.
