Live Scores and Stats - Canterbury Magicians v Auckland Hearts Match 9

Canterbury Magicians have won the only game they have played so far in the tournament and are currently placed at the number 4 position on points table.

In their last match against Otago Sparks, they lost the toss and had to field first. Lea Tahuhu provided an excellent start to Canterbury Women with the ball as she dismissed Millie Cowan and Katey Martin within the powerplay overs. Polly Inglis was removed right after the powerplay by Kristy Havill and Otago Sparks looked in all sorts of trouble. Frances Mackay was then introduced to the attack and she ripped through the middle order taking the wickets of Hayley Jensen and Caitlin Blakely. Towards the latter half of the innings, Bella James showed a significant resistance to Canterbury bowlers but perished soon to a dramatic runout. Canterbury bowlers kept to tight lines and did not let Otago women score freely in the death overs; meaning Otago Sparks were bundled out for 112 runs in 20 overs.

During the chase, Canterbury Magicians lost their first wicket early in the form of Frances Mackay who was cleaned up by Molly Loe on the first ball of second innings for a golden duck. After the fall of first wicket, Amy Satterthwaite and Natalie Cox combined together and stitched a 74 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. This partnership almost sealed the fate for Otago Women as Amy scored a fluent 56 runs off 40 balls and remained unbeaten to complete the chase with 8 wickets in hand.

Auckland Hearts have won 2 out of 3 games played and are placed at the number 3 position on points table. In their last completed match against Northern Spirits, they won the toss and elected to bat first. Lauren Down and Anna Peterson got the team to a brilliant start as they made 80 runs between them for the 1st wicket. Anna Peterson was the quick scorer as she made 41 runs off 22 deliveries, while Lauren Down was cautious and held one end tight for her 63 off 64 balls. Katie Perkins and Bella Armstrong later capitalized on the beautiful start provided by openers and took the team total to 158 in 20 overs.

Defending 158, Auckland Hearts started out very well with the ball as they picked up 3 important wickets within the powerplay overs. All of the sudden, Northern Spirits were 35 for 3 in the 5th over itself. Hannah Rowe and Natalie Dodd then steadied the ship with their 61 run partnership for the 4th wicket. It lit some hope for the Northern Spirits but once the partnership was broken, the lower middle order could not keep up with the required rate. In the end, Northern Spirits could only manage 150 runs in their 20 overs losing the game by 8 runs. Arlene Kelly was the star of the show as she picked up 4 wickets in her spell giving away just 28 runs.
