Live Scores and Stats - Wellington Blaze v Central Hinds Match 2

Wellington Blaze ran through the batting line up of Auckland Hearts in their recently concluded game. Winning the toss, Wellington Women decided to field first. Jess Kerr and Maneka Singh kept Auckland openers quiet in the powerplay over. The mounted pressure resulted in couple of early wickets. Anna Peterson was dismissed by Maneka Singh while Jess Kerr downed Lauren Down. Bella Armstrong was soon to follow the suit and was dismissed at 2 by Maneka Singh.

Katie Perkins played some beautiful strokes and was looking promising before falling prey to the most uncomfortable dismissal in the form of a run out. After Katie Perkins fell, the scoreboard read 28 for 4 in 7 overs and there was too much left to do for the lower middle order. After the powerplay, the premier bowler Amelia Kerr was introduced and she wreaked havoc on the Auckland batters as she returned with magical figures of 11 for 3 in her spell of 4 overs. In the end, Auckland Hearts could only manage a total of 92 for 9 in their 20 overs.

Wellington Blaze lost a wicket early during the chase. Rebecca Burns was dismissed at a score of 3 runs by Anna Peterson. Amelia Kerr was promoted to number 3 and from the word go, she started carting the Auckland pacers to all parts of the ground. It released the pressure created from an early dismissal. Maddy Green also counter attacked and gathered 30 runs in 21 balls. Amelia Kerr made 58 runs in 34 deliveries and helped Wellington chase the target with 9 wickets in hand. Amelia was adjudged player of the match for her superb all round performance.

Central Hinds finished at the number 4 position in 2019-2020 season points table having won 4 out of the 10 games played. The last time they faced Wellington Blaze in 2019-2020 season, they were completely outplayed in all departments to lose the match by a margin of 49 runs.

Bowling first, Central Hinds bowlers kept it tight in the initial overs against Rachel Priest and Rebecca Burns. They managed to get the early breakthrough in the form of Rebecca Burns. However, the fall of wicket did not deter Rachel Priest from playing a counter attacking knock of 38 from 24 deliveries. She added 47 runs for the 2nd wicket along with Maddy Green. The top 3 set a good platform for the middle order to cash on and Sophie Devine along with Amelia Kerr did exactly that. Amelia Kerr smashed 38 off 25 while Sophie made 29 runs to take the team total to 170 in 20 overs.

Chasing a huge total, Central Hinds started terribly as they lost their top 4 at a total of 51. Jess Kerr then ripped through the middle order to finish with the figures of 13 for 4 in her spell. Amelia Kerr too bowled economically in her spell giving away just 27 runs at a rate of 6.75 while picking up 2 wickets as well. The only batter who looked in touch for Central Hinds was Hannah Rowe who made 22 runs off 27 balls. In the end, Central Hinds were bundled out for a total of 121 in 20 overs losing the match by 49 runs.

Wellington Blaze are surely the hot favourites going into their next game against Central Hinds and the latter would have do something special to knock the champions out.
