Two young Sale cricketers made breakthrough performances as Sale dominated their matches over the weekend. Youth products Dan Newton and Callum Ross both put in standout performances.
IS Recruitment sponsored Sale visited Macclesfield and were asked to bat first on a sporting looking wicket and lost both openers cheaply.
Tyrone Lawrence then took the score to 68 with Newton before he was bowled for 35.
Newton then took control hitting a fine maiden 100 not out, adding 48 for the fifth wicket with Jonathan Davidson (16) and 54 with Josh Patel (28) for the 8th wicket as Sale closed on 219-9.
Newton hadn’t finished there as he tore into the home side’s batting line up. Macclesfield slumping to 14-3 with two early Newton wickets and a run out.
Macclesfield had no answer to Newton (3-16) and Lawrence (3-18), only Jack Matteson delaying the inevitable.
Once he fell for 35 the score was 71-8, leaving Rob Grant to polish off the tail as the home side were shot out for 83.
Sale 2nd XI enjoyed the best of a drawn game against Alderley Edge at Dane Road. Sale electing to bat first piled on the runs.
Openers Joe Molloy (47) and Theo Brodbeck (30) got Sale off to a great start in a 70-run partnership.
Mike Bishop (84 off 94 balls) and the returning Mat Spells (66 not out off 71 balls) then pushed the score on to 254-4 off 50 overs.
The visitors had a good go at the chase thanks to 112 from opener Ashray Bhamidpati, however when he was one of Callum Ross’s 7 victims with the score on 180 the chase was over, as Alderley clung on at 199-9.
Ross, another young spinner to come through the Sale youth system taking a career best 7-48.
On Sunday Sale 3rd XI had a good win at Stockport Georgians after bowling them out for 163 inside 43 overs, Theo Brodbeck, Tom Riley and Grant Whittaker all taking 3 wickets each.
Sale coasted home for the loss of 5 wickets inside 27 overs thanks to 84 not out from opener Asad Khan.
Sale 4th XI suffered a narrow defeat at Runcorn 3s after the home side had posted 186-3. Sale were bowled out for 163, Tom Moakler (65) and Shayan Imran (36).
Earlier in the week Sale Silverbacks won a humdinger of a rain affected game at Urmston. Sale posted 127-2 off 15 overs, Mark Rowe 32 retired and Mike Bishop 30 retired.
Urmson go close at 122-5, but Paul Hanrahan and Bishop held there nerve in the final overs.
