Round 1 match of the Bob Willis Trophy 2020, which takes the place of the County Championship 2020, will be played between Surrey and Middlesex at the Kennington Oval, London.

With Australian international Peter Handscomb's contract cancelled, Sam Robson, who scored over 850 runs last year, will also continue to open the batting with Nick Gubbins for Middlesex.

Tim Murtagh and Steven Finn, who are in the last leg of their careers, will continue to do the bulk of the bowling for Middlesex, with Toby Roland-Jones, their second highest wicket-taker in 2019, offering good support.

Surrey have a list of solid batters with Rory Burns, Hashim Amla, Ollie Pope and Ben Foakes, but none of them are likely to be available. The all-round ability of Tom and Sam Curran will also be missed by the side.

What they will have though is the batting services of Mark Stoneman, whom the team will desperately want to come good. All-round contributions from an ageing Rikki Clarke will also be handy for the side.

Among the bowlers, they have Morne Morkel to trouble the batsmen with awkward bounce while Amar Virdi will hope to spin a magic web.

Let's have a look at the probable playing XI of both teams:

Surrey - Mark Stoneman, Scott Borthwick, Jamie Smith, Gus Atkinson, Ben Foakes , Will Jacks, Rikki Clarke, Jordan Clark, Liam Plunkett, Morne Morkel, Amar Virdi

Middlesex - Sam Robson, Nick Gubbins, Stephen Eskinazi, Tom Lace, Max Holden, Nathan Sowter, John Simpson, James Harris, Toby Roland-Jones, Steven Finn, Tim Murtagh
