Odisha Jaguars won their last completed fixture against Cheetahs as they beat them comprehensively by 48 runs. Batting first after losing the toss to Cheetahs, they lost Bibhu Malik early on in the innings. After his dismissal Shamsul Khan and Girija Rout stitched an important partnership of 50 runs for the 2nd wicket. Shamsul Khan made a very good looking 62 off 35 balls and provided the much needed momentum to the innings. Kshyama Bal and Abhijit Barik in the lower middle order continued to keep the scoring rate up as they scored 19 and 33 runs respectively. In the end, Odisha Jaguars finished with a huge total of 169 for 4 in 20 overs.
After conceding a big score, the shoulders in the Cheetah camp were down. Manoj Kashyap provided the first breakthrough for Jaguars as he dismissed Maroju Prasanth for a golden duck on the first ball of the innings. Suman Mohapatra and Anurag Sarangi tried to steady the ship by doing a 56 run partnership for the 2nd wicket. However, once this partnership was broken, there was a regular fall of wickets in the middle order that followed. Nirbishankar Barik once introduced into the attack, ripped through the middle order and claimed 4 wickets for just 17 runs in his spell. Cheetahs could never recover from this period and were restricted to 121 for 9 in 20 overs losing the match by 48 runs. Nirbishankar Barik was adjudged the man of the match for his impressive bowling spell.
Odisha Lions on the other hand have 8 points from their 5 completed games and are placed at the number 4 position on points table. In their last game against Odisha Tigers, Lions won the toss and elected to bat first. Durgaprasad Behera was the first one to be dismissed for a golden duck. He was soon followed by Rakesh Patnaik and Swastik Samal as the scoreboard read 37 for 3 in the 6th over. Nauttam Bhanja and Sujit Skhetra Lenka produced a wonderful partnership of 43 runs for the 4th wicket. After another wicket, Deepak Behera came to the crease and took over where Bhanja had left off. He made a fluent 27 off 17 balls that included two huge sixes. In the end, Lions managed 147 for 9 in their 20 overs.
Defending 147, Alok Mangaraj and Sibasish Sahoo bowled their hearts out early on. Mangaraj removed both the openers while Sibasish Sahoo claimed the middle order batsmen. Both the bowlers picked up 2 wickets in the match. Due to the terrific performance by the opening bowlers, Odisha Tigers were reduced to 16 for 4 at one point. Amin Khan and Harshit Rathod lit some hope for Tigers with their fighting knocks of 15 and 27 runs respectively but there was no significant support from any other batsmen as the lower middle order collapsed like a pack of cards. Eventually, Tigers made 80 for 9 in their 20 overs losing the match by a huge margin of 67 runs.
